Hurricane Sandy, the biggest Atlantic storm in history, impacted millions of people along the mid-Atlantic and northeast US. Dubbed the "Frankenstorm", Hurricane Sandy caused particularly severe damage in New Jersey and New York, where the storm surge hit on Oct. 29, 2012, triggering sever flooding, wind damage and power outages. Hurricane Sandy destroyed whole communities, left tens of thousands homeless and killed more than 100 people. Damage in the US is estimated at over $63 billion.
